• The General Debate opens on 23 September -- after a day's meeting on Climate Change with a number of heads of state speaking on that first day, as many of them will be leaving for Pittsburgh for a gathering on the financial crisis.
  
  

• A short list of candidates for the post of Spokesman for the Secretary General will be drawn to take over from the current Spokeswoman. No obvious front-runner yet.
  
  

• Elections for the Security Council's new non-permanent members is expected early October.
