The recent passing away of former UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros Ghali drew worldwide tributes including a formal General Assembly meeting with elaborate remarks by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and delegates from various regions including an admiring one by the permanent representative of the host country, Ambassador Samantha Power. It also prompted comments in various media about his unflinching leadership qualities, superb intellectual prowess, ad unvanquished (he loved this word, especially in French) determination to perform his designated functions with dignity and courage.

As we reproduce some of those tributes, we extend most sincere condolences to his wife, and formidable partner, Leah, sharing her profound grief at the loss of an outstanding UN SG, an honorable sir of Egypt and the Arab world, an unabashed internationalist, a creative professor, and a warm friend. As it is recalled in the Coptic faith, "may his memory remain forever."
