The Secretary General may visit Cyprus towards the end of
February following a planned trip to Athens and Ankara. It depends on his judgement
whether a personal intervention in Nicosie would help to nudge or budge the two old
protagonists to move closer to an agreement. That may not be certain after recent
elections in the Greek sector.

While prospects of war on Iraq seem to dominate political activities,
there seems to be little preparation for the International Day for Solidarity with Woman
on 8 March. The division directly concerned apparently has diminished public impact and
even lesser outreach.
