• The first President for Europe is likely to be selected end October. Former Britain Prime Minister Blair is France's candidate, opposed by Germany -- and possibly Scandinavia. A compromise may be found from a smaller European country. Or perhaps over former colleague, former Finnish President, Nobel Laureate Martti Ahtisaari.
  
  

• UNESCO General Assembly meeting in October is expected to confirm the selection of Bulgarian Ambassador Irine Bokova for the post of Director General.
  
  

• The General Assembly will be selecting five new non-permanent members of the Security Council for two years. The new ones are likely to be: Gabon, Nigeria, Brazil, Bosnia, and Lebanon.
